Even if you aren't specifically trying to trick someone, they can be mistaken, can't they?

What does it even mean to "establish a relationship based on the principles of friendship"? What looks like friendship for one person could just be normal courtesy for another person. And on the other hand, someone might want to be friends but not be able to demonstrate it in the way you expect.
