Could you elaborate why? I am simply curious as to where the desire may come from. What if it is more emotionally damaging for someone to kill as opposed to being killed? Why is taking the path of least personal suffering foolish?

can't have emotional wellbeing when you're dead

and if you counter that with death not being permanent here

well that defeats the whole point about killing someone else being such a huge deal doesn't it

To be fair, you cannot have anything when you're dead, positive or negative. Therefore it is still the path of least suffering for the person making the choice. Staying alive by killing means being alive and conscious to carry that particular emotional burden.

ok i think that's a fundamental difference in worldview? i was just explaining why i personally think self sacrifice is stupid not trying to convince you

but hey here's another thing

chances are you've got people who care about you and who will be hurt if you die even if it's not permanent

so refusing to make an attempt to protect yourself is the same as saying you care more about your own emotional wellbeing than theirs

That is very similar to what a friend told me, but I admire the sharpness of your last line. It offers a great view of the context.
