when you're exposed to trauma your brain can't cope it tries to

make sense of it and digest the event

so it basically awnts to recreate the experience

theres something to be said about how trauma overrides things in your life that were formerly secure and stable attachments because

its so unpleasant and uproots your life entirely

so in a weird way it BECOMES a stable attachment in your life by virtue of uprooting everything else

plus nmaybe there were things that you didnt think were THAT bad or whatever because your brain tries to erase how bad it was and stuff

so the part of you that learned it was a bad thing that happened decreases in effectiveness while the part of you that is trying to cope with it is tempted to do it again and then because its a powerfully formative experience in your life it feels like youre attached to it and want to do it again

finding pleasure in things that are unpleasant in other circumstances is basically all BSDM.

I dunno what to tell you about the trauma part, but I don't think THAT part is that weird.

I think the problem is finding pleasure in those things while under unpleasant circumstances. I am not unfamiliar with BDSM, but the cornerstone of it is the safe and controlled environment, isn't it? When taken outside of that environment, doesn't it make sense that you're not supposed to enjoy those things?

Sort of. There's the idea that it should be "safe, sane, consensual," which is like that. But there's another principle called "risk-aware consensual kink" where the idea is that it doesn't necessarily always have to be safe. If everyone's aware of the dangers involved and entering into the situation willingly, it still might be okay. Obviously there are some mixed opinions on that one. But there are certainly a lot of people who enjoy it.

Feeling bad or not being nice has nothing to do with consent.

Are we talking about you wanting to do something you feel like you shouldn't enjoy, or enjoying something that was forced on you? Those are different things.

Well, that happens basically all the time, doesn't it? Maybe not to the level you're talking about, but we're all trapped in hell and forced to participate in games. That doesn't mean people can't find something to enjoy in them, either incidentally or because they're making the best of a bad situation. Even the worst ones like the murder hotel had fun things for some people in them.
